Effect of Cover-Crop Burndown Timing on Efficacy of At-Planting Insecticides for Thrips Control in Arkansas Cotton, 2005
نویسنده
چکیده
Insecticides used at planting, either in-furrow or as seed treatments, are the recommended management option for control of thrips in cotton in Arkansas (Greene, 00 ). However, in recent years the efficacy of standards, such as aldicarb in-furrow, has decreased. This has resulted in added cost of control due to foliar insecticide applications being required in addition to the at-planting insecticide. The reasons for this decrease in insecticide efficacy are not known. However, this decrease in efficacy has occurred at approximately the same time as the increase in cover-crop use in northeast Arkansas. The purpose of the experiment was to determine the effect of burndown timing on the efficacy of recommended at-planting insecticides for thrips control.

Application of a preplant or preemergence glyphosate burndown is routine in most no-tillage production systems of annual crops, however, time of application may influence overall weed control and grain yield. Six field trials were conducted over a three-year period (2008, 2009 and 2010) near Ridgetown, Ontario, Canada to determine the effect of glyphosate burndown application timing in glyphosa...

Adult vial technique (AVt) and spray table bioassays were conducted to evaluate toxicity of selected insecticides against immature and adult thrips, Frankliniella spp. (thysanoptera: thripidae). In AVt, technical insecticides comprised of organophosphates (dicrotophos and methamidophos), spinosyn (spinosad) and neonicotinoids (thiamethoxam and imidacloprid) were used. the LC50 values for contac...
